In a huge re-run of the inhuman treatment meted out to migrant labourers we saw last year, a group of three to four migrant labourers are being quarantined in a primary school with no facilities.

There is no provision for food, water, bed, toilet or other basic amenities. One of the labourers who was interviewed by our Community Correspondent Mohanlal Seelu said they were not even screened or tested for COVID-19 infections.

They are getting their food from home when it should be the responsibility of the local panchayat to do so. To attend to nature's call, they go out in the open to relieve themselves further risking the spread of the Coronavirus. They have been isolated together with little space for physical distancing.

"Our demand from the government is to provide us with better facilities. We have been here for the last four days and no one from the local health department or authority has visited us," said Sujit Uike, one of the quarantined labourers.
